Denver Art Museum
Over the weekend, we made a quick trip to Denver. Visited the fabulous Denver Art Museum and caught the show: WOMEN OF ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM. This groundbreaking exhibition celebrates the often unknown female artists of this mid-twentieth-century art movement. Have you heard of these artists? Mary Abbott, Jay DeFeo, Perle Fine, Helen Frankenthaler, Sonia Gechtoff, Judith Godwin, Grace Hartigan, Elaine de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Deborah Remington, and Ethel Schwabacher. Probably not, because they were over shadowed by their male counterparts. Here's to the TRAIL Blazers!
(Lee Krasner was the wife of Jackson Pollock. Helen Frankenthaler was married to Robert Motherwell. Deborah Remington, Jay DeFeo and Sonia Gechtoff were part of the Beat Generation women artists in San Francisco in the 1950's. )
